Archdiocese calls out to bankruptcy lawyer. The St.Paul-Minneapolis Archdiocese is the latest archdiocese to have to visit a bankruptcy lawyer for help. The result is the filing of a bankruptcy case. Many are betting it will not be the last. The reason the Church has gotten into money problems has been all over newspaper headlines for years. Now it appears bankruptcy lawyers will be very busy for years to come working on these bankruptcy cases. The Church has been hit up with a lot of claims due to sexual abuse by members of their clergy. This now makes twelve Archdiocese’s in the United States alone that has had to file a bankruptcy case. The lawsuits relating to sexual abuse will be put on hold while the bankruptcy case is pending. The St.Paul-Minneapolis Archdiocese is the largest in the State of Minnesota. It has more than 800,000 parishioners. The Church has assets between $10-$50 million. It listed liabilities between $50-$100 million in its bankruptcy petition. There are already about two dozen lawsuits. On top of that, there are more than 100 more claims out there. To date. Who knows what the total liability will be. The Church had no other choice. It needed the help of a bankruptcy lawyer. Many are hopeful the claims of the victims will be honored. There is also hope out there that the abuse is at an end. Attorneys who filed the lawsuits are upset the bankruptcy case was filed. They want justice for the victims. The Church wants to be able to survive financially. This often happens when debt becomes too much. You can only take care of what you can afford. Many times a new start is the only solution. The bankruptcy lawyers in these cases are dealing with big issues. Making sure the victims receive justice. Also making sure the Church will be around for many more years to come.
